No Vacancy: A Flea-Free Home Guide
🐾 DEAR HUMAN,
It’s me.
Your Dog.
We have fleas.
And before you start Googling “HOW MUCH DOES THE VET COST” while staring at me like I’ve financially ruined this family…
I have some housekeeping suggestions.
Because those tiny freeloaders aren’t just hanging out on ME. They’re setting up an entire civilization in our carpets.
🧹 FIRST: VACUUM LIKE THE FLEAS OWE YOU MONEY.
Carpets. Rugs. Couch. Baseboards. Cracks.
Under furniture. Anywhere I sleep.
Yes, even YOUR bed.
We both know I’ve been up there.
🌎 DIATOMACEOUS EARTH
Diatomaceous earth can kill fleas by drying them out. If you’re using it indoors, choose a product actually labeled for flea control/indoor use and FOLLOW THAT LABEL.
And don’t sprinkle it directly on me just because somebody on Facebook said so.
I have lungs, Susan.
🧪 BORATE/BORIC-ACID CARPET FLEA TREATMENT
There are pesticide products specifically labeled for treating carpets for flea larvae using borates/boric acid.
The important words here are:
✨ SPECIFICALLY LABELED FOR FLEA CONTROL ✨
Not “I found a random box of powder underneath the kitchen sink.”
Follow the product directions exactly, including instructions about keeping pets and kids out of the treatment area.
🔥 STEAM CLEAN
Hot steam + soap can kill fleas at multiple stages of their life cycle.
Excellent.
Choose violence.
🧺 WASH MY BEDDING.
Hot. Soapy. Water.
Blankets, covers and everything my itchy little butt has touched.
🪮 FLEA COMB ME.
Especially my neck and around the base of my tail.
Any flea apprehended by authorities may be sentenced immediately to a cup of hot soapy water.
💊 AND TREAT YOUR PET.
Cleaning the house attacks the infestation happening around us, but your pet still needs an appropriate flea treatment.
Use something labeled for your pet’s
SPECIES, AGE + WEIGHT and follow the directions.
DOG PRODUCTS ≠ CAT PRODUCTS.
So here’s our battle plan:
🐾 TREAT THE PET
🧹 VACUUM DAILY DURING THE INFESTATION
🧺 WASH THE BEDDING
🔥 STEAM CLEAN
🌎 USE LABELED FLEA-CONTROL PRODUCTS CORRECTLY
You don’t necessarily need to set your entire paycheck on fire just because fleas showed up.
But you DO need to break their life cycle both on your pet and inside your home.
Now please stop scratching just because you read the word “fleas.”
